![]() ![]() Metroid was viewed as one of the most neglected Nintendo franchises for the longest time, as one of the last mainline entries in the series was the frequently maligned Metroid: Other M. RELATED: Metroid Prime 4 Wish List Metroid Prime 4's Silence is Telling Alongside Metroid's Other Successes With how much attention the company has shown to other aspects of Metroid, it seems like Nintendo is purposefully neglecting Prime 4 at this point. That was a little more than four years ago now, and since then Nintendo has been silent on how the game is progressing. The fourth entry in the popular series was initially in development with Bandai Namco Studios, until Nintendo became unhappy with how the project was progressing, scrapped everything, and passed Metroid Prime 4 on to Retro Studios. Amidst this resurgence, however, Nintendo has neglected a Metroid project many have waited on for over five years, Metroid Prime 4.Īnnounced at E3 2017, Metroid Prime 4 has been a proverbial white whale for Metroid fans for a long time now. As if that wasn't enough, Nintendo also shadow-dropped the highly sought-after Metroid Prime Remastered in February, giving gamers the opportunity to enjoy the classic GameCube title with enhanced graphics and controls. After years of dormancy, Nintendo finally released the seemingly abandoned fifth entry in the mainline series, Metroid Dread, to tremendous success almost two years ago. Out of all the predictions here, the lattermost two seem the most believable, but perhaps Nintendo will take pity on players for 2020's entertainment drought and shower them in updates and new games. The Metroid franchise has experienced a major resurgence in recent years. ![]() Finally, Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes have long been rumored, and annual releases are standard for the franchise. The fourth picture directly references the Japanese-exclusive Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War, possibly suggesting that the fourth Fire Emblem installment could finally arrive in the West much like the first game recently did. The Splatoon suggestion for this year, meanwhile, could point to anything from a sequel to yet another new DLC pack relating to Octolings. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4 in 2021 would each be huge surprises (to the point of being almost too good to possibly be true), but the vague images above could perhaps be implying that classic games or spin-offs will be coming this year while players continue to wait for mainline entries. Because of this, it's likely that this year will see even more leaked information release from sites such as ResetEra. These include cancelled plans for sequels to Pokémon X & Y and gameplay for an unreleased Donkey Kong title on the SNES. Most Nintendo leaks from 2020 revealed information on plans for cancelled games or prototype versions and assets from already released games. While leaks are common in the gaming industry, Nintendo couldn't catch a break on the leak front in 2020 following a massive hack, which is still slowly being drip-fed to players by those with access to the illicit materials. The new year has only just begun, and (whether true or not) this is only the first of likely many Nintendo leaks players can expect to hear about in 2021. ![]() A new alleged leak suggests what Nintendo's 2021 release schedule will look like, supposedly containing new entries in several core franchises, including the launches of the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2and Metroid Prime 4. ![]()
